80th anniversary of D-Day
June 6th 2024
At 11am on June 6th a small commemorative ceremony took place at the 2nd World War Cross of Sacrifice. Our chair Janet Sturgis spoke and this was followed by a minutes silence to reflect the sacrifice that was made on that day 80 years ago. A beautiful wreath of fresh flowers, made by Jo Hunt was then placed on the cross.
We retired to the Friends Chapel where there was a display about 5 young soldiers who died on or just after D-Day following their landing on the beaches of Normandy.
